FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ReopenAmerica Project forming national coalition
DENVER, Colo.—ReopenAmerica Project is gaining traction and members, said its founder Jonathan Lockwood, a political consultant who has worked primarily in western states. Today, the coalition announced Colorado House Republican Caucus Chair Lori Saine joining the project. The coalition will be holding conference calls and working across states to develop communication lines to help support other members’ efforts in their states.
“Lawmakers across the country are grappling with the tension between health concerns and reopening their states,” said Lockwood. “The ReopenAmerica Project is forming to amplify voices advocating for a balanced, data-driven approach to getting America back up and running. In communications with people across the country it has become obvious the need for a unified message, especially when executives and others have created such an imbalanced conversation.”
Saine says she has heard from constituents all over Colorado that they want to see a common-sense strategy that doesn’t leave people in the gaps. She has also seen an intense crackdown on citizens, like the father who was arrested at a park with his daughter despite following guidelines.
“We are seeing the unintended consequences of a too extreme, one-size-fits-all approach to combatting coronavirus,” said Saine. “I would like to see a more balanced approach that looks at the costs of the decisions being made and really takes into account how many lives will be lost if we do not get our country back up and running.”
“People want leadership that doesn’t leave them with binary choices, we can safely reopen the economy and protect those who are vulnerable,” added Saine.
The coalition is a social platform and will be exploring how to move forward as needed in response to how the lockdowns and coronavirus crisis unfolds. Lockwood will be interviewing lawmakers and others in the coming weeks as states work to reopen.
